I met with activist David G. Oddo in San Diego last month during an event organized by Muslims Rescuing Darfur (www.MRDSD.org). david is one of the active member of the growing Darfur coalition in San Diego. he sent a strong message to President Omer al-Bashir, and recently he wrote an editorial in San Diego Tribune titled "Darfur and the world's Apathy"

Regarding “Genocide and global indifference” (Opinion, Jan. 12):
Sociologist George J. Bryjak's opinion is a sad commentary on the current state of our collective humanity. As an active member of the Save Darfur movement, I can attest to the large-scale apathy regarding the ongoing genocide in that region of the world.
Given the nature of the Darfur calamity (500,000 dead; thousands of women and girls raped and tortured; and 4 million in need of humanitarian aid), one would have expected a massive outpouring of righteous indignation from the world community.
Unfortunately, such a reaction has not been forthcoming. I am therefore reminded of a pertinent observation by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.: “Man's inhumanity to man is not only perpetrated by the vitriolic actions of those who are bad, it is also perpetrated by the vitiating inaction of those who are good.”
